Ponca City Medical Center has added a fourth OB/GYN to its medical staff. Derek Holmes, D.O. specializes in infertility, urogynecology, obstetrics and gynecology and is now accepting appointments.
After earning a bachelors degree from Oklahoma State University in 1987, Dr. Holmes worked for Conoco in Ponca City as a chemical research technician for nine years. He decided to switch careers and enrolled in medical school at Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. In 2003, he graduated with his medical degree and then completed his residency at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine - Tulsa.
Though Dr. Holmes had several options when it came time to choose a place to open his first practice, Ponca City was at the top of list because of his previous experience here.
“When I worked at Conoco, I was always impressed by the city's rich history, the pride that Poncans have in their community, and the quality of the schools and services available in a city that still exhibits small town values,” said Dr. Holmes. “I also felt like Community Health System's commitment to developing a progressive hospital in Ponca City was consistent with the pioneer spirit that this community demonstrates, and I am excited to have the opportunity to be a part of that effort.”
Dr. Holmes is one of the first physicians in the area to offer 3D/4D ultrasound technology to his patients. This technology provides a higher resolution image in actual or “real” time. Such imaging is especially useful for obstetricians who suspect structural abnormalities and need to see specific surface renderings of a fetus.
Appointments can be made by calling (580) 767-1777. His office is in Suite 202 on the second floor of the Specialty Services Building, 1908 North 14th, on the Ponca City Medical Center campus.
